We are a grassroots, farmer-led movement created to distinguish soil-grown and pasture-raised products under USDA organic.
Our mission is to grow people’s understanding of foundational organic values and practices; crops grown in soil and livestock raised on pasture are fundamental to organic farming.
Our first goal is to create an add-on label to USDA certified organic to provide more transparency on organic farming practices.
About This Cause
The Real Organic Project has gathered 500 farms to be certified with our label representing soil-grown and pasture-raised. The organic movement is coming together around this label to protect the meaning of organic. As corporate influence pushes USDA Certified Organic into becoming Industrial Organic, so much of value is being lost. Our effort is built on education, empowering eaters and farmers to unite over a sane food system that serves all of us. Our symposia have been powerful in conveying our message, and have engaged speakers from Al Gore to unknown beginning farmers. Our board of Advisors includes Vandana Shiva, Leah Penniman, Dan Barber, Alice Waters, and Eliot Coleman. Our common ground is real organic. Our weekly letters and upcoming podcast series offer a depth of understanding to thousands of people, including many pioneers and leaders of the organic movement.
