About This Cause
VSO creates lasting change through our volunteering for development model of bringing people together to share skills, knowledge, and resources. Our unique role in international development is to place committed volunteers with carefully selected organizations to empower communities and individuals to take charge of their own development and catalyze sustainable change. Over the last 60 years VSO has worked in over 90 countries with more than 80,000 volunteers and has supported 50,000,000 people. We currently work in 23 countries in Africa and Asia and engage more than 4,000 volunteers annually. VSO works in the areas of education, health, and livelihoods through multiple pathways – by helping to create environments that bring into the system those who are excluded including people with disabilities and women and girls, by developing the capabilities of individuals, organizations, networks, and institutions, and by advocating for policy change. Volunteers engaged with key stakeholders and communities to improve the quality of and access to key services and help individuals reach their potential.
