Mission Statement

The school’s mission is teaching Ukrainian language, culture, and history to elementary-to-middle school-age children of Ukrainian origin or those interested in our culture’s country.

About This Cause

Ukrainian School of San Francisco (USSF) is a parent-run Sunday school founded in 2014 and having a 501(c) non-profit status since 2019. The school’s mission is teaching Ukrainian language, culture, and history to elementary-to-middle school-age children of Ukrainian origin or those interested in our culture’s country. We are not affiliated with California Department of Education as do not participate in K-12 education; instead, we aim to enrich our students by teaching them things commonly known by those who grow up in Ukraine. Our mission is to help Ukrainian children permanently residing in the region to develop their multicultural identity, and to help children in the families temporarily visiting the US to maintain their language skills and history knowledge. Most recently, our school also became an important hub for Ukrainian war refugees running from the war launched by Russia against Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Right now, our school is serving over sixty children in eight different grade levels, offering classes in Ukrainian language, literature, history, and art. The school operates a mini-library, supplying students and teachers with necessary instructional materials, and organizes periodic concerts and other cultural events aimed at supporting traditional arts and crafts and building up the Ukrainian community in Northern California.
