Mission Statement
R Star Foundation "Helping the women & children in Nepal…therefore the world" serves and educates the isolated and disempowered women and children of Nepal. We connect resources to the neediest people in one of the most remote areas on earth and help to bring about peace.
About This Cause
2003 R Star began working in Nepal lifting financially and emotionally, women by gifting 2 pregnant goats to single women and the poorest women in 2 villages. We serve 50 villages in Kavre. The women sell birthed animals and keep 100% of the proceeds; they are in groups of 25 women of all castes, which is ''social'' change"; we gifted each group microfinancing funds with NONE of the interest returning to R Star but expanding their funds to loan larger amounts to more in their group. All loans to date have been repaid in full. Through collaborations we have brought in adult literacy classes and graduated 3350 women; training classes from Sewing to Incense & candle making, knitting and more making them skilled and literate women; we built an elementary school in 2008 with 60 children attending for reduced costs to the males, females being full scholarships as otherwise families willn't send their girls, The school keeps the children safe as they do not have to walk an hour to get to school avoiding predators on 2 and 4 feet. We brought in water to 3 large villages which improved the health of the villagers and their animals. We built a well for our Top of the World Nepal school as well. With the 2015 quakes, our focus altered dramatically. We were boots on the ground in 3 days with medical supplies, food, tents and HOPE with other organizations we contacted. We manufactured in Nepal and distributed mosquito nets covering over 32,000 people. Counseling was offered for their extreme losses by organizations we reached out to help us. 600,000 homes were lost in Nepal, over 17,000 in our villages. We began to construct organic greenhouse farms at a cost of $450 to 500 each, organic seeds included with water tanks for drought times and ease to water their 500 plants, tomatoes the first crop. We had great success harvesting 2 of 4 crops in six months. The added income earned will be and was used to assist in rebuilding the homes and lives. We have for safety reasons closed the school we built and ran for 10 years. We continue to support education with a recent gift of 50 Samsung Tablets gifted to a school. Education is the way to lift children and villagers out of the extreme poverty they have. Collaborations have brought advanced roads to Kavre as well as many water projects, the most recent bringing water spigots to 300 households. Nepal is not listed as a 3rd world country, rather it is an ''underdeveloped country which is poorer than 3rd world. We are an ALL volunteer organization. No paid employees including the CEO. The funds received go to our projects. We are under 10% with our overhead.
