Mission Statement

Seattle Documentary Association cultivates and supports an equitable and professional community of nonfiction storytellers.

About This Cause

The Seattle Documentary Association places the highest value on outreach and inclusion of filmmakers from underserved communities from diverse racial and economic backgrounds, women, gender non-conforming individuals, people with disabilities, and filmmakers of all ages. Bringing together seasoned and emerging non-fiction storytellers of diverse backgrounds for in-depth exploration of the craft of documentary filmmaking, best practices, distribution, and community engagement strategies. SeaDoc hosts year-round programs including: Works-In-Progress screenings that provide filmmakers with constructive feedback on their work—films selected focus primarily on social justice issues; SeaDoc Portraits series, short video profiles of local filmmakers; online discussions with filmmakers; and networking events. Our premier event DocForest, a three-day documentary filmmakers retreat, is the mainstay of SeaDoc. It is featuring panels, breakout sessions, speakers, and works in progress screenings, and networking lunches and dinners. We regularly provide full and partial scholarships to filmmakers in need who wish to attend DocForest.
