Mission Statement
Our mission is to unlock the inherent potential of every young person, while empowering them to thrive. Our Vision is to co-create equitable communities where all young people know they matter. MYC will be a community hub that ensures social emotional health for all young people so they can reach their fullest potential and become compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
About This Cause
Since established in 2016, MYC has become a thriving youth hub that serves 550+ youth and families a year, with a commitment to providing free programming that is inclusive for all, regardless of income. Our core team members are long-time community leaders with a wealth of knowledge and connections throughout our city, county, and state, who are committed to children’s emotional health as a priority for building on the future of our communities. We serve youth ages 5-24 in Midcoast Maine experiencing poverty and hunger, as well as those who are involved in the justice system or who have mental health challenges, including substance use disorders. We serve LGBTQ+ youth, youth experiencing domestic abuse or violence, and black, indigenous people of color. Our Merrymeeting Homeless Youth Project serves McKinney-Vento youth (youth who are experiencing homelessness, without access to fixed, regular, or adequate nighttime residence), as well as unaccompanied minors who live without a parent or guardian, and at-risk youth without supportive adults in their lives/living in unhealthy home environments.
