PROJECT SARAFINA

Washington, District of Columbia, 20019 United States

Mission Statement

We are on a mission to eradicate the barriers school-aged girls from vulnerable communities face in their attempt to receive an education. We envision a world in the future where there will be no girls prevented from accessing school because of her gender.

About This Cause

Project Sarafina was launched in 2019 with the intention to empower girls from vulnerable backgrounds through education. The organization was founded by Miriam Hammond and is overseen by a Board of 5 women. During the first year of operation, Project Sarafina impacted 100 girls and educators through programming in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Marietta, Georgia; Tuskegee, Alabama; Washington, DC; and Rwanda. In 2020 Project Sarafina celebrated 1 year by raising $1,000 in the month of January to support their after-school program in Washington, DC. Project Sarafina was also chosen by L’Oréal USA as a target nonprofit in February for Black History Month. Project Sarafina received over $1,000 worth of school supplies to donate to Grace Villa, a safe haven for girls in Kabale, Uganda.
