Mission Statement
The mission of Safe Harbors is to create alliances and partnerships that connect documented refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers with temporary shelter and necessary basic services. Our goal is to keep families safe and together.
About This Cause
Safe Harbors is a humanitarian organization that provides shelter and aid to vulnerable populations in Southern California. Since its founding in 2016, we've helped over 10,000 people who have come across our southern border from all over the world. We are recognized by the United Nations as the only permanent “Refugee Welcoming Shelter” in Southern California, which means we are uniquely suited to provide long-term care to refugees––mostly women and children––as they await their court date, a process that can take years. We are proud recipients of the Amnesty International Digna Ochoa Human Rights Defender Award (2016) and hold a Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar. Safe Harbors provides a support system to refugees who might otherwise be on the streets or in a detention center as they await their immigration court date. Many of our guests have fled life-threatening circumstances in their home country. They've abandoned established lives and communities, traveling thousands of miles for the chance to begin anew in a safe community. We provide our guests with the comfort and security they need to heal, and the resources needed to work toward meaningful, independent lives in the United States. To this end, we offer health, legal, educational, and social services through the support of our community partners. We also work directly with immigration authorities to ensure the legality of our operations and the security of our guests. Safe Harbors is raising funds and support to expand our operations. With your help, we can provide safety and dignity to those seeking refuge in our country. Please join us by sharing our story and making a tax-deductible donation.
