Mission Statement
Your Food Oasis believes hunger and waste are two sides of one problem, so we work to distribute excess and near-expired food from local grocers to people in need, preventing this quality, edible food from ending up in landfills.
About This Cause
We're an all volunteer group dedicated to reducing hunger while also reducing food waste. We work with local grocery stores to collect excess & near-expired foods and distribute the food to those in need in the Beaverton, Aloha, Hillsboro, Forest Grove and Cornelius areas. We work with local farmers to dispose of food not suitable for human consumption, preventing the donated food from reaching the landfill. Our food boxes vary daily, based on the food donations received, but they usually include one or two packages of meat, some cheese, other forms of dairy (yogurt, milk, butter), fresh fruits and vegetables, a few packaged salads (potato, macaroni, lettuce), bread, and we have a rack stocked with assorted pastries, cookies, pies and cakes for clients to selects from. The majority of our clients are either elderly on fixed incomes or working families, all of whose struggles have become more difficult with the price increases in housing, fuel, heathcare and food. Providing quality food helps ensure that people are able to eat, reducing the frequency of the difficult choice of which to do without.
