Mission Statement
AWA's mission is to produce world-class welding talent; afford under-educated and underemployed youth, returning Veterans, and adults looking to up or re-skill, economic sustainability through the craftsmanship of welding.
About This Cause
American Welding Academy (AWA) is the 501c3 community-based nonprofit designed to support AWA's core mission, underwrite cost of participation for low-income community residents. AWA is a testing facility and innovative professional development training program. AWA will prepare participants for employment opportunities in the welding industry. The US welding market is a lucrative point of entry to the workforce and is becoming even more so as the demand for welders, with dexterity in multiple techniques, are in high demand. Labor economists projected a substantial shortage in skilled pipe and structural steel welders in the coming years, establishing an urgency to develop a strong pipeline of workers ready to meet the demand. The need to upskill adults and establish viable training and development pathways for youth is particularly pointed in New Jersey where local training institutes and community colleges focus exclusively on rudimentary structural steel welding techniques, despite the number of refineries and powerhouse facilities that require pipe welding. Pipe welders are in extreme demand as regional gas, liquid, oil, and waste management employers are finding it increasingly difficult to source trained professionals. AWA is years in the making and a manifestation of the founder's vision to train historically marginalized and intentionally excluded youth and underemployed adults in the art of welding. Mr. Williams is committed to using welding training and skills development to support individuals to make a living wage that fosters thriving families and a path out of poverty.
