About This Cause
Kalabash Academy is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization with the goal of providing quality education and soccer training to under-served youths in West Africa. This will give kids access to opportunities that would otherwise be completely unavailable to them, and give them the tools to build a better future for themselves and their community. We serve kids in countries in which 47% of the population live below the poverty line and 65% of the population cannot read or write. What does it mean to grow up poor? What do kids actually experience? What it means is much higher rates of intergenerational consequences. Children living below the poverty threshold have poorer health outcomes. Furthermore, poverty affects children’s health not only when they are young, but also later in their lives as adults. International interventions have shown that the effects of poverty can be reduced using sustainable interventions like education and sports. Approach and Value: Identify talented youth around West Africa who demonstrate a commitment to learn and provide them with a fully residential academy that emphasizes a comprehensive education curriculum, elite soccer training, and character development that is geared towards building impactful leaders.
