About This Cause
Alex Weed was diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) in September 2016 at the age of 16. After 6 rounds of chemotherapy, Alex was in remission. Unfortunately, his lymphoma returned just one month later. Relapse brought about the need for a bone marrow transplant. Alex’s transplant occurred July 7, 2017 from an unrelated umbilical cord blood donation found through Be The Match. Alex spent over 150 days inpatient during his bone marrow transplant and 2-year long battle with cancer. During that time, Alex wanted to escape & used technology like movies, music & gaming to detach from hospital life. But the headphones he wore had a wire...adding one more wire to the multitude already hooking him to necessary medical equipment. Alex knew that having an escape needed to come with one less wire. OneLessWire was born from Alex’s desire to help other teens in similar situations. Those spending significant time inpatient, hooked up to multiple wires required for medical treatment. He wanted to create moments of relief, joy and escape with OneLessWire.
