About This Cause

The Race to Zero Waste is an urgent call to reduce waste in all sectors. Race to Zero Waste is a woman-founded and -run 501(c)3 environmental conservation non-profit organization that is dedicated to reducing consumption, implementing reuse, and promoting an equitable circular economy. Race to Zero Waste’s mission is to support communities, businesses, and governments in the training, education, and policy work needed to move toward a just and equitable circular economy through community education and outreach. Race to Zero Waste seeks to foster community empowerment, leadership, and job creation in the world of zero waste. Race to Zero Waste is an affiliate of the Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA) and follows the organization's peer-reviewed definition of zero waste. The impact of zero waste efforts on the environment and global greenhouse gas emissions is significant, and with the urgency of climate change, it's never been more critical to take action. In 2023 alone, Race to Zero Waste employed over 50 Zero Waste Trainees, conducted outreach at over 20 Zero Waste Pop-ups, implemented reusables at one university, provided SB: 1383 compliance for two municipalities, conducted 8 waste audits, diverted over 100 tons of waste from landfill, reached over 57,000 accounts on social media, and educated over 85,000 people at events and in public spaces.
