Mission Statement
Our mission is to build a Village of All Together in Silicon Valley and in the world, where all of our diverse cultures are welcomed, included and thrive. We are deeply committed to celebrating our cultures inclusive of all of her diversity and complexity, such as someone who is Arab ancestry and LGBT, or Greek and Catholic.
About This Cause
Kafenia builds a welcoming, thriving Silicon Valley and world through bringing a feminine spirit and deep-hearted community to the work of cultural and social change. ROOTS: WELCOME: we first seek out and find those who want more community and connection here, and offer a big warm welcome. GATHERINGS: in person community gatherings that include food, dialogue, cultural exchange. These are on Zoom during COVID. Our dream is to open a permanent community space inspired by the ancient symposia and Greek kafenio. BRANCHES: CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND PROJECTS: -Supporting our community members in leading civic engagement visions and projects that build a village of all together. We help develop their visions and leadership by having our community host gatherings. We also have the "one thing" effort, where Kafenia will help you implement one thing you hope to see In our community that supports building a "Village of All Togehter." We build a small cheerleading team around you, and help with connections, brainstorming and support. We started by supporting a community member helping RV dwellers in Palo Alto and expanded to a WordSlam Poetry Contest in East Palo Alto and an Umoja community health project. PEACE MEALS: we host Peace Meals annually where we eat together in solidarity with a community affected by war and conflict. We held a Libyan Iftar, a Peace Meal with Dreamers and more. These have been on hold since COVID. FRUITS: A thriving Silicon Valley and world. Come join us as a supporter (we try to have $1000 available for all projects to help them launch) and participant!
