TeachUNITED supports teachers to prepare the next generation of students with the skills to graduate, earn more income, and disrupt cycles of poverty. We envision a world where every child receives the quality education needed to thrive beyond the classroom.
About This Cause
TeachUNITED addresses the learning crisis in under-resourced schools by providing teachers with the tools they need to deliver an equitable, high-quality education. Our programs keep girls in school longer, help more kids graduate, and ensure the best teachers stay in the profession. TeachUNITED is tackling this global learning crisis by investing in teachers. We design custom teacher training programs with and for the educators of each community to help teachers adopt proven, high-impact teaching strategies through individualized coaching and engaging workshops. These programs improve student academic achievement as well as teacher skills, morale, and retention. TeachUNITED educators create engaging, student-centered lessons that prepare the next generation of students with the skills to graduate, earn more income, and disrupt cycles of poverty. We are working to improve educational systems and increase achievement for 5 million students by 2030. OUR IMPACT Based on a comprehensive analysis of 80,000 research studies on what works best in education, TU educators receive on-the-job coaching on proven teaching strategies which: 1. Close learning gaps of 2-3 years in a single school year 2. Have the greatest impact on social-emotional development, attendance, grade-level progression, academic achievement, and more 3. Can be utilized effectively in any subject area or curriculum By supporting educators in under-resourced and under-performing schools with proven strategies, we help students build foundational skills, complete more years of schooling, and increase opportunities for tertiary education, better employment, and flourishing futures. AFRICA - After TeachUNITED, the number of secondary students performing at grade level increased by 83%. TU schools have 60% more secondary students at or above grade level than schools that did not participate. - Even two years after the program ended, TU students' pass rates increased by 41%, and 83% more students scored well enough to pursue higher education. - One year after TU programming, TU primary schools increased from the 49th to the 87th percentile in national rank. LATIN AMERICA - Students in TU schools improved literacy scores by 15 percentage points and showed 4x the growth in math compared to their peers. - TU's programming helped teachers to increase secondary school pass rates by 26%. - After participating in TU, the number of teachers planning to leave the classroom dropped by 36%. UNITED STATES - TU schools improved math scores by 93% compared to non-TU schools. - 55% more low-income students were reading and writing on grade level after TeachUNITED. - 100% of TU schools reported improved teacher retention after participating. GIRLS - In East Africa, TU girls' early literacy scores increased by 149% compared to a 39% increase for girls in non-TU schools – more than 4x the growth. - In Latin America, after their teachers participated in TU, girls' math skills improved by 14% and literacy by 9%. - The promotion rates of girls in TU secondary schools in East Africa increased by 84% three years after TU’s programming ended. TeachUNITED’s model for transforming education is unique in its depth of programming. While other programs offer a one-day or one-week training with minimal or no follow up, our program lasts 6+ months and includes small group activities, personalized 1:1 coaching, and frequent touch points.
