About This Cause
We believe that everyone should have access to a doctor and that’s why The Cherry Hill Free Clinic (CHFC) was founded. We provide free primary care and wrap around healthcare services for South Jersey’s most vulnerable population -- the uninsured and under-insured. Our mission as a non-profit healthcare organization was founded on Islamic values including mercy, charity, justice, and respect for life. Cherry Hill Free Clinic is committed to serving all people regardless of race or religion. In addition, CHFC provides pharmacy medications, behavioral health and clinical nutrition services all at no cost in an effort to reduce chronic disease and offer a comprehensive medical home to reduce burden on health system emergency departments. We focus on treating those referred to by United Way as ALICE: Asset Limited Income Constrained, but Employed. CHFC was started because over 43% of households living in our region are ALICE, and now with COVID-19 this number will grow. CHFC sees patients over the age 18 who are living just above the federal poverty line but below what it really costs to survive. (200% to 300% FPL). We know the costs of care at a hospital or primary care center is quite extreme. Our treatment is free because we have volunteer medical providers, and for the most common injuries or illnesses we can help reduce unnecessary emergency room utilization. As of July 2021, we have treated over 4,000 encounters representing over 3,000 patients. We have saved several lives, improved health outcomes, and most importantly - restored hope for many more. Our patient demographics are very diverse. We treat many patients between 25-50 years old, with about 50% non-Caucasian. We also refer patients to financial counseling and have a partnership to assess each patient’s options for public programs such as Medicaid, SNAP etc. With the help of our supporters and volunteers, Cherry Hill Free Clinic is putting an end to the healthcare disparity, so families can live a normal, happy life.
