Mission Statement

Communities of Belonging builds connected communities through restorative homes, community conversations and holistic reentry support that integrate marginalized populations as a vital part of the whole.

About This Cause

Communities of Belonging empowers formerly incarcerated and homeless individuals with holistic support and peaceful reintegration into society. We build safe, trusting, and caring connections and weave them together with practical, tangible resources so that marginalized individuals feel a sense of belonging, purpose and contribution. We have provided permanent, supportive housing in our Restorative Home since 2018 with a 90% success rate of avoiding re-incarceration. We attribute the high success rate to our high-touch blend of kindness and accountability, our commitment to mindfulness and restorative practices, and community support. We were incorporated as a Washington State nonprofit in 2019 and as a federal 501(c)3 in 2021. Communities of Belonging holds weekly community circles designed to build relationships with allies of all backgrounds and histories. To date, we have held more than 300 weekly community circles! We also host Community Conversations designed to put a human face on the complex issues of incarceration and homelessness. Through vulnerability and the sharing of personal stories, we strive to reduce fear and stigma and to build allies through thoughtful dialogue and understanding. Communities of Belonging is working to expand its impact beyond the individuals in our Restorative Home and community circles by building partnerships, donors, new board members, and community events like our annual Walk for Belonging. We welcome your involvement! Providing tangible skills and resources, allies and a caring, interpersonal network makes safer communities for all of us.
