About This Cause
One Earth One Chance, a nonprofit, was formed as a direct response to make a positive impact on our environment. "The Earth is what we all have in common" and we have One Chance to do something. Did you know that every 2 seconds, a forest the size of a football field is destroyed. Brazil accounted for over a third of all forest loss worldwide At this rate, in 100 years, this planet will no longer have rainforests. Without trees we will have pollution and there will simply be no air to breathe. Can you imagine leaving a world without trees as a legacy for our grandkids? There will also be water shortage, unpredictable weather patterns and vulnerable species will lose their natural habitats. Witness the Amazon, Australia and current California crisis! The health of our environment is closely tied to the health of our communities and tree cover loss will cause disease, poverty and conflict to spread. Climate change is “the greatest global health opportunity or threat of the 21st century” per Lancet Commission. Here's what you can do to make a difference: 1. Avoid single-use plastics and littering. Find a trash can to throw away garbage and recycle metal, paper, and plastic according to your city's guidelines. 2. Use recyclable bags at stores or shop at Farmers Markets where products are locally sourced and packaging is minimal. 3. Turn off unnecessary lights and fans at home. 5. Opt for Meatless Mondays to reduce your carbon footprint and try composting your food waste. 6. Walk or bike for transportation, whenever possible.
