Mission Statement

High quality child care, early learning programs, and family support services primarily for low-income families.

About This Cause

Boulder Day Nursery was established in 1917 to provide and promote care for the children of working families. For nearly a century it's aim has been to provide the best possible care to families who are least able to afford it but who are most likely to be negatively impacted by a lack of access to quality early childhood programs. Research has consistently demonstrated that all children, but especially children from homes with risk factors, have markedly better outcomes when they have access to quality early childhood programs. Boulder Day Nursery is committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and diverse environment for all families. Part of that diversity is cultural and racial. Children with developmental challenges - challenges that would exclude them from most other schools - are welcome too. But a big piece is also about socioeconomic diversity. Each year approximately 10 to 15% of enrolled families are what would be considered non-low-income. This brings families together from all points of the socioeconomic continuum, in a way that doesn't happen all that much anymore in our society. Boulder Day Nursery operates year-round, and serves children as young as six weeks old, up to the time they go to kindergarten. Fees are set on a sliding scale. Each year, Boulder Day Nursery provides just over $600,000 in tuition assistance and scholarships to low-income households. Integrated health programs that focus on prevention rather than intervention, compliment the high quality early childhood programs.
