About This Cause

Sobriety House is a nonprofit drug and alcohol treatment center located in Denver, CO. Established in 1967, Sobriety House is the oldest residential program in the state. We are a state licensed, 12-Step based program offering Intensive Residential, Transitional Residential, and Outpatient/Intensive Outpatient groups. We serve men and women 18 and older. Most clients live on our main campus, a cluster of historic Victorian houses, which offers them a safe, sober, home-like setting while in treatment. Due to our nonprofit status and receiving some state funding, we are able to offer the lowest cost residential treatment in the state of Colorado. Many of our clients are able to have their treatment partially or fully covered through grants we offer to low-income individuals. We offer priority placements to pregnant women, IV drug users, veterans, and women with dependent children. Our Intensive Residential treatment program lasts 28 days. Clients in this program are in group therapy 7 days per week. Each client is assigned a primary counselor that they meet with at least once per week on an individual basis. Clients also complete homework, 12 Step work, and life skills classes. During these 28 days, clients do not have access to electronics and typically do not leave campus. Clients in our Transitional Residential program can stay for up to six months. During their time in this program, clients must be out in the community Monday through Friday looking for work or going to a job if they already have one, going to school, volunteering, attending support meetings, etc. In the evenings, clients have a few group psychotherapy sessions and meet with their assigned counselor once per week. In this program, clients are permitted to have their electronics during the day but must turn them in to the house manager in the evening. House managers are available to clients on all properties whenever clients are on campus. All client medication is kept in the House Manager's office and monitored when a client need to take a dose. We randomly drug test clients on a regular basis and have a no tolerance policy for drug or alcohol use while in program.
