Mission Statement

To provide and advocate for culturally responsive, essential human services and opportunities

About This Cause

In 1972, twelve advocates from Denver Metro’s Chicano community on the Northside of Denver came together to form Servicios de La Raza (Servicios), a bilingual human services organization, to serve Denver Metro’s low-income, Latino population. The mission of Servicios de La Raza is “to provide and advocate for culturally responsive, essential human services and opportunities.” 51 years later, Servicios is the largest provider of free health and human services to low-income Latinos in Colorado. Servicios served 79,439 individuals last year. 80% (or 51,786 individuals) were Latino/a, 10% Non-Hispanic White, 5% American Indian or Alaskan Native, 2% Asian, 1% African American, 1% Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and 1% Other. 100% were low-income and many self-identified homeless. In Colorado, over 30% of Black, Latino/Latina, and Biracial Coloradans worked in low-wage jobs where minimum wage is $12 per hour,$14.45 per hour less than is needed for a household to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Colorado (Colorado Coalition for the Homeless report). 100% of Servicios clients served last year were 134% - 400+% FPL as follows: 134 – 250 FPL: 25%; 251– 400 FPL: 25%; and above 400 FPL: 50%. Of those served 65% were immigrants and refugees, a majority of which were monolingual, Spanish-speakers. Through self-report surveys, only 42% of those eligible for insurance were insured and only 60% reported that they had a personal health provider.
