About This Cause
The SAINT Volunteer Transportation program provides transportation to seniors and people with disabilities who cannot drive so they can access all the goods and services they need to remain independent with a reasonable quality of life. All rides are given by unpaid volunteers who drive their own cars. SAINT recruits the volunteers, schedules the rides, and provides the drivers with a mileage allowance and extra insurance. Each year some 14 volunteers provide over 31,000 rides to about 750 individual clients. While medical appointments are the most frequent destination, SAINT also takes people to exercise classes, beauty appointments, grocery stores and all other destinations. Funding is sought to help underwrite the mileage allowance (30 cents per mile) provided to the volunteer drivers.
