Mission Statement
We are Colorado Horse Rescue, and we are building a better future for horses. We see it. We believe in it. And we are here to make it happen. As a 501(c)(3) impact organization operating in Colorado since 1986, we work to continuously reimagine what’s possible and create a reality where safe solutions exist for every horse.
About This Cause
In general, CHR provides emergency relief, care, rehabilitation, and adoption services for abused, neglected, abandoned and unwanted horses. We generally house around 50 horses on our 50-acre property. Our specific programs include: Equine Surrender Program: CHR helps responsible horse owners find new homes for their beloved animals, as they relinquish ownership to CHR. As we are a rescue, CHR also works with Animal Control Authorities on a regular basis to provide emergency care and shelter to disadvantaged equines in the community. Equine Crisis Intervention Program: CHR provides short-term financial assistance to horse owners in the midst of a temporary crisis (a medical emergency for example). Adoption Program: with an in-depth application process, CHR ensures that each horse is placed into the ideal living situation moving forward. Foster Care Program: for families seeking a non-rideable equine companion and not looking to take ownership of a horse, this program is a wonderful 'win-win' situation for horse and human. All costs associated with each foster horse are completely tax-deductible. CHR's Education Program: CHR provides community resources through equine education, counseling, information and referral services. On a regular basis, we travel to schools in the community to help teach responsible horse ownership to the next generation. On site, professionals in the industry teach clinics around proper horse care, training and handling, veterinary and farrier practices, and more. CHR currently partners with Colorado State University to promote the highest standards of equine care in the industry. Volunteer Program: CHR is currently home to nearly 80 dedicated volunteers who help promote our mission and care for the horses on a weekly basis. We are always seeking new qualified, professional volunteers for this program. Additional Information: Funding comes primarily through individual donations, grants, bequests and corporate sponsorships. With a dedicated Staff and Board of Directors (not to mention our wonderful volunteers), we are thrilled to see this organization grow towards its full potential.
