Mission Statement

River Song Waldorf School offers children ages 2 ½ to 7 a nurturing, home-like environment as they transition more deeply into childhood and prepare for the joys, challenges, and expectations of school life. Sensory integration, social-emotional skills, eye-hand coordination, appreciating the beauty of language, respect for others and their environment as well as other basic skills necessary for the foundation of academic excellence are fostered in mixed age classrooms.

About This Cause

River Song is a living, breathing place supported by a rhythmic and developmentally appropriate curriculum grounded in the arts and the natural world. Consistent daily and weekly rhythms keep children centered and focused on the joys of imaginative play. A community of engaged caregivers, teachers, and staff work to develop a child’s growing mind, body and spirit through movement journeys, hand games, and crafts. In this truly natural, loving and creative environment, children learn from a range of meaningful, valuable activities in an educational structure that helps them enjoy the magic of childhood while building the foundation for future learning. • Child-centered and relationship-based • 7:1 student to teacher ratio • Organic morning and afternoon snacks provided • Natural toys and materials • Media-free environment that encourages imaginative play and creativity • Daily nature play (rain, snow, or shine) including walks, gardening, sledding, picnics, water play, and more • Rhythms built around seasonally-appropriate themes, songs, and stories • Emphasis on imaginative play as an early foundation for executive function, creativity, critical thinking, social intelligence, personal and social responsibility, as well as problem solving. • Strong community of families, both current and alumni • Year-round schedule (holiday closures) • 2, 3, and 5 day schedules with full or half day options River Song is the only full member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) in northern Colorado. We believe that all children deserve the chance to experience Waldorf education, regardless of income. Therefore, we offer a sliding scale program to families who qualify. River Song cares for the whole child - head, hands, and heart! In order to pay our teachers a living wage, offer benefits, and still maintain our promise to offer a sliding scale to low-income families, we rely on donors from our community to offset what we can't raise in tuition alone as well as sponsors from local businesses. It truly takes a village and what a village we have!
