I HAVE A DREAM FOUNDATION OF BOULDER COUNTY

Boulder, Colorado, 80303 United States

Mission Statement

Our mission is to partner with youth and their families as they successfully navigate school, college, and career by providing a holistic academic, social, and emotional program from elementary school through college, along with postsecondary scholarship assistance.

About This Cause

"I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder County (IHDF) remains committed to narrowing the opportunity gap between Dreamer Scholars and their more affluent peers in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts. The educational challenges in our community remain. Boulder County is home to over 30,000 people living below the federal poverty line. Beneath the veneer of affluence in Boulder County lies an economically disadvantaged reality and structural inequality. IHDF serves youth from low-income areas at partnering schools and low-income housing communities, with 12+ years of long-term and holistic programming. Five days a week for 39 weeks per year, the foundation provides students with tutoring, mentoring, cultural enrichment, career awareness, job placement, college preparation, and individual guidance until they finish high school and to and through postsecondary education. Currently, there are 12 active "I Have A Dream" classes in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts. Their program has proven to help students from low-income communities excel: currently, 92% of students participating in IHDF programming graduate from high school, compared to 80% of students who are economically disadvantaged in the County (per 2018 Colorado Department of Education data) and to the County’s overall high school graduation rate of 90% (Boulder County Trends Report, 2019).
