Mission Statement

Wonderbound uses dance to deepen humankind’s common bond through uncommon endeavors of discovery and creation.

About This Cause

Wonderbound was founded as Ballet Nouveau Colorado in 1992, and in 2007, Garrett Ammon and Dawn Fay retired from their performance careers with Ballet Memphis and Trey McIntyre Project to become the organization's artistic leaders. They went on to transform the professional company into Wonderbound and move the organization to downtown Denver in 2013. Comprised of twelve exemplary dancers, Wonderbound is a contemporary dance company that lives at the convergence of tradition and innovation, vulnerability and courage, and intimacy and openness. Under the leadership of Ammon and Fay, Wonderbound is committed to the development and sharing of collaborative artistic experiences. These undertakings have come to define Wonderbound, producing creations that erase boundaries between mediums and engage artists and audiences in candid explorations of the human experience. Wonderbound continually collaborates with a broad range of artists and organizations, from emerging talents to the region’s largest institutions, to provide programs for the community that are artistically rich and highly accessible. Through this work, Wonderbound seeks to upend notions about how art is made and shared in the modern world. Wonderbound develops original, collaborative programs with a diverse range of local artists and features live music for almost every production. These productions rise to the highest levels of artistic excellence, being hailed by audiences as comparable to national work seen in larger metropolitan cities. Community Programs: Wonderbound is located at 3824 Dahlia Street, Denver CO, 80207, which is in both an Opportunity Zone and an Enterprise Zone. Situated in Northeast Park Hill, an historically challenged neighborhood, Wonderbound is bringing much-needed arts access to the surrounding areas of Northeast Park Hill, Elyria-Swansea, Montbello, Globeville, and Aurora. During its 2022-2023 season, Wonderbound implemented a new partnership to provide access to dance for children enrolled in Sewall Child Development Center, an inclusive preschool, at WellPower (previously Mental Health Centers of Denver). Founded in 1989, WellPower provides the largest volume of behavioral healthcare services in Colorado and is a place for recovery, resilience, and well-being, known nationally as a model for innovative and effective care. Sewall Child Development Center was established in partnership with Denver Public Schools and WellPower and provides early education and therapeutic supports for children ages 2.5-5; many of whom are neurotypical and neurodiverse (having mental health or physical disabilities). Geographically, Wonderbound and WellPower are located very close to one another at just .8 miles away, and this proximity facilitates opportunities to provide arts access. Wonderbound’s new initiative with Seawall Child Development Center and WellPower, titled WonderWell, includes dance programming that is provided weekly onsite at WellPower’s Dahlia Campus location by Wonderbound's Registered Dance Movement Therapist. The program uses psychotherapy and dance movement therapy to develop resiliency, confidence, teamwork, and generosity.
