About This Cause

Congo Relief Mission, Inc. (CRM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization established in 1996. Our current objective is to provide food, shelter, education and healthcare for 210 orphan and abandoned children in Mbujimayi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The third largest country in Africa, the DRC borders nine countries and is situated in the region known as Sub-Saharan Africa. DR Congo ranks 179 out of 191 countries (in 2022) of the UN's Human Development Index which measures life expectancy, education levels, and income. Life for most people is a daily struggle to survive. According to the UN, 95% of the people earn less than $2 a day. According to the World Food Program, the DRC is the world's largest hunger crisis, with over 26 million people (about the size of Texas) are severely hungry. For the last 20 years acute malnutrition rates are stuck at 6.5 percent for children under 5; more than 40% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition. The number of orphans in the DRC is roughly 800,000. Congo Relief Mission (CRM) primarily supports 210 orphan children in five orphanages. Monies raised are used to help feed, educate, and care for these orphans. The efforts of CRM benefit people living in extreme poverty living in Mbujimayi. The third largest city in Congo, Mbujimayi lacks basic infrastructure. Only a small percentage of people have access to electricity and running water. Conflict, political uncertainty, and economic collapse have left many people without basic essentials. CRM'S programs help the most vulnerable.
