Mission Statement

As a statewide 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition (CCIC) strategically mobilizes diverse partners and families to advance children’s health through immunizations. CCIC works with health care providers, public health departments, businesses, policy makers, and community organizations to fulfill our mission. By focusing on four programming areas – coalition building, community outreach, provider education and public policy – the coalition leverages the strengths and resources of our members and community partners to maximize the effectiveness of our efforts. As the state's only independent nonprofit organization committed to children’s immunization, we elevate the essential role vaccines play in preventing illness and promoting health for all of Colorado. We do all of this without accepting funding from vaccine manufacturers and distributors.

About This Cause

We know that childhood vaccines are a safe, easy, and cost-effective way to help prevent disease and keep children healthy as they grow. Research shows that children who are vaccinated experience fewer doctor’s visits, hospitalizations and premature deaths. In fact, vaccines averted 6,500 child hospitalizations in Colorado and saved $400 million in statewide hospital charges in just one year. However, many Coloradans do not receive the vaccines needed to keep them healthy. With the help of our partners – healthcare providers, parents, community organizations, public health departments, businesses and policymakers – we strive to identify and advance solutions to challenges facing Colorado families and communities and ensure that our community is protected from vaccine-preventable disease. What We Do Free and Low-Cost Vaccines We believe that no one should miss out on the benefits of vaccination due to inability to pay. Community Outreach and Awareness Our community outreach efforts build awareness among English and Spanish-speaking parents about the safety and importance of immunization. We also share vaccine information with health care providers, parents, the media, and organizations across the country via print resources, social channels, the TeamVaccine.com blog, and more. Public Policy Effective public policy is one of the best ways to ensure all Coloradans are fully immunized. Provider Education Each year, our organization educates approximately one thousand health care professionals from across the state and beyond through our provider education series. Coalition Building Immunize Colorado's coalition building and engagement strategies leverage the collective voice of our diverse health partners to address immunization priorities in Colorado. Immunize Colorado believes deeply in these core values: We believe that every child, adolescent and adult should be fully immunized to keep all Colorado healthy. We believe that increasing access to immunizations improves health equity among Coloradans. We believe that collaborating with diverse partners and families strengthens our ability to advance immunization in Colorado. We believe that identifying and promoting effective policy solutions that improve access, delivery and demand for immunizations in Colorado increases immunization rates and reduces preventable illness. Evidence shows that exemptions result in higher risk of vaccine preventable disease to both the children who take the exemption and to others in the community; therefore we support meaningful exemptions after consultation with a health care provider. We believe that educating providers on evidence-based immunization clinical practices promotes a high-quality health care work force and improves health outcomes. We believe that conducting parent outreach and awareness campaigns on the importance and safety of vaccines increases the demand for immunization. We welcome you to join us in our efforts to keep Colorado kids healthy by offering a donation, becoming an Immunize Colorado member, serving as a volunteer or committee member, attending an event, joining our online community, or simply sharing the value of vaccination through your personal networks. Our success is dependent upon you!
