Mission Statement
The purpose of the Sandy Mush Community Center is community improvement and capacity building through goals including, but not limited to: (1) strengthen the sense of community and awareness of community history and its agricultural heritage; (2) increase educational and health and wellness opportunities; (3) increase preservation efforts, including the historic Sandy Mush School and grounds; and (4) strengthen and support community organizations.
About This Cause
The programs of the Sandy Mush Community Center is carefully aligned with its Mission. It holds events throughout the year that draw upon the historical traditions of the community, the state, and the nation. It provides Youth Programs for the young and a Food Pantry for those who are in need of nutritional support, as well as yoga. It maintains its historic building, which began as a rural schoolhouse in 1927. And it works with local organizations, such as the Asheville Humane Society, Big Sandy United Methodist Church, the Buncombe County Council on Aging, EcoForesters, and Manna FoodBank, and others, to help them advance their respective missions.
