Mission Statement
Tabitha Reach was founded with a clear and powerful mission: to empower struggling single mothers in developing countries by providing hope, resources, and opportunities to help them overcome poverty and hardship. The organization’s roots are grounded in the belief that every mother deserves the chance to provide for her family while having the support and tools she needs to create a better future. Since its inception in 2017, Tabitha Reach has worked to create sustainable change by focusing on both short-term assistance and long-term empowerment, allowing women to break free from cycles of poverty, transform their lives, and impact future generations. At the core of Tabitha Reach’s work is a commitment to the individual dignity and strength of each woman we serve. We recognize that single mothers in developing countries often face overwhelming challenges. The lack of community and governmental support, coupled with limited access to quality education, healthcare, and financial resources, leaves many women struggling to meet basic needs and care for their children. For many, the choice to leave their families behind and seek work abroad is the only option for survival. This situation not only separates mothers from their children but also leaves them vulnerable to exploitation and marginalization. The founder, Rita Khayat, who herself is a single mother, understands this struggle firsthand. After losing her husband suddenly, Rita was faced with the challenge of raising three children alone, all while navigating the financial and emotional difficulties of single motherhood. This personal experience, coupled with the realization that many women in countries like Ethiopia and Honduras face similar hardships, inspired the creation of Tabitha Reach. The organization’s work is rooted in the belief that women do not need to be separated from their children to survive; they simply need the right opportunities, training, and support to thrive within their communities.
About This Cause
Tabitha Reach’s program is designed to provide comprehensive support for single mothers, addressing both immediate needs and long-term development. Our signature 6-month program is a transformative journey, carefully crafted to equip women with the skills and resources they need to build sustainable livelihoods. The program is based on five core tracks: Foundation, Business, Parenting, Wellness, and Civic Engagement. These tracks provide a holistic approach to empowerment, ensuring that participants not only gain practical skills but also develop the emotional and mental strength to navigate life’s challenges. Foundation: This track lays the groundwork for personal growth and self-sufficiency, focusing on essential life skills, goal setting, financial literacy, and time management. Business: Participants are trained in entrepreneurship, including how to start and manage small businesses. This track empowers women to create income-generating opportunities that allow them to support their families while remaining close to home. Parenting: Single mothers face unique parenting challenges, and this track provides guidance and support in raising children in a healthy, loving environment. We focus on emotional well-being, effective communication, and child development. Wellness: Women’s health—both physical and mental—is a priority. This track focuses on self-care, nutrition, stress management, and resilience-building, helping mothers become healthier and stronger individuals. Civic Engagement: Empowering women to become active leaders within their communities is an essential part of the Tabitha Reach mission. This track encourages women to engage in community development, advocacy, and leadership roles. The Journey to Expansion: Since our inception, Tabitha Reach has made significant strides in Ethiopia, where we have built strong relationships with local communities and seen remarkable transformations in the lives of single mothers. However, our work does not stop there. In recent years, we have expanded to Honduras, where we have established a beautiful center, thanks to the generous support of local partners, including the mayor. Our first group of mothers will begin their 6-month program in January, marking a significant milestone in our journey. As we continue to grow, we are exploring the possibility of expanding to other countries, such as El Salvador, where the needs of single mothers are equally urgent. Our ultimate goal is to create a network of support that spans multiple countries, each connected by the shared mission of empowering women and breaking the cycle of poverty. By empowering mothers with the tools they need to become financially independent, we are helping to build stronger, healthier families and communities. Our participants go on to become entrepreneurs, educators, leaders, and advocates in their communities, creating ripple effects of change that last for generations. Women like Adanech, an Ethiopian mother who was forced to leave her family to work abroad, found new hope through Tabitha Reach. Instead of being separated from her children, Adanech was able to build a stable business at home, allowing her to support her family while being present for her children. Stories like hers are a testament to the power of empowerment and the difference that access to education, resources, and community support can make in the lives of women and families.
