About This Cause
Latin America has the largest skills gap in the world, with three in four companies stating they have problems filling vacancies. Meanwhile, nearly one in four families in the region live in an urban slum where a significant amount of untapped potential exists, but access to quality education remains a significant barrier to breaking the cycle of poverty. Plataforma Impact bridges the gap between those hungry for opportunity and a market hungry for talent. We do this by providing technical training (programming), social support (psychological support, scholarship opportunities), professional mentorship, and job placement. After a strict admissions process, students enter the program as part of a team, led by a facilitador (advanced students referred to as Jedis). Teams progress through a technical curriculum together, working on real projects as a group. In this way, students develop not only the technical skills, but also the soft skills they will need to take to market. We also offer biweekly seminars with market professionals, and pair our Jedis with individual mentors. Our goal is to develop great people first, and prove to the world the hidden, untapped talent that exists in low-income communities.
