Mission Statement
OK You’s mission is to bring more OKness to the world by supporting young people in using creative practices to navigate complex emotions and stay connected to their OK selves.
About This Cause
What does it mean to connect to our OK selves? This is the question we encourage young people to answer for themselves, but generally speaking we think of OKness as that state of calm, balance and self- acceptance that lives within each of us. We believe we all have the creativity and inner knowing to find and sustain our personal OK, and we believe this work is fundamental to our health, relationships, ability to focus and learn, and resilience in navigating the challenging moments and emotions of our lives. With the number of youth struggling with anxiety and depression continuing to rise, this work has never been more urgent. In 2021, 42% of youth in our country reported feeling persistently sad or hopeless, and 1 in 5 seriously considered suicide (cdc.gov). Our youth are suffering and 80% are currently not receiving support outside of their homes and schools. Meanwhile school counselors are operating at a ratio of 1 to 350-450 students. In response to this widening gap between the number of struggling youth and the limited capacity of youth supporters to meet their needs, we have focused our efforts on serving school counselors, teachers, families, youth-supporting organizations, and others in trusted, culturally-specific roles with youth. By sharing resources and practices with youth supporters, we’re able to multiply our reach and impact with arts+wellness strategies that can continue to grow and expand within communities. OK You currently supports 70 schools and youth-supporting organizations in Oregon and thousands of individuals across the country. In addition to our free online resources, we offer youth and caregiver workshops, youth leadership opportunities, and professional development/support to school counselors, teachers, and other youth supporters.
