Mission Statement
We serve young men of color between the 7th and 11th grade who come from low income communities. Since 2009, we have used the concept of developing strong teams as a way of teaching our young men of color about collaboration, ideation, and long-lasting life skills. In small teams our youths learn the process of taking an idea from concept to market. We use coding as the catalyst to take young men of color and turn them into technology leaders who build positive communities.
About This Cause
Founded in 2009, TXT is the premier nonprofit organization developing teens from South Los Angeles, Watts, Boyle Heights and Compton into the next generation of innovation and technology leaders. Key programs include the Summer Coding Leadership Academy (SCLA) is a rigorous 10-week computer science and entrepreneurship program that teaches technological skills like coding, app design and graphic design as well as soft skills like problem solving, Junior SCLA for middle school students, Hustle N' Code Hackaton where students participate in a day of learning coding and building a website for youth who live in the housing development areas. We also offer annual workshops for youth in the community.
