About This Cause

Adult & Teen Challenge is a minimum one-year faith-based residential recovery program that serves individuals who struggle with substance abuse to drugs and alcohol. We serve clients both nationally and internationally. Our organization has been operating for the past 60 years, helping combat our country's ever-growing substance abuse epidemic. On an annual basis, we assist thousands of teens, men, and women in over 200 of our residential treatment centers across the US. Our organization has collectively built creditable relationships with community members, neighborhood associations, businesses, foundations, and local and state government entities that have endorsed our program's effectiveness in the lives of our participants. In addition, our programs have maintained a success rate of over 70% for individuals who complete our one-year program, gain long-term success from substance abuse, and become contributing, productive citizens. Brown County has a significant number of residents who struggle with substance abuse issues, but does not currently have the capacity to support that entire population through substance recovery programming. Our 12-month, nationally recognized program has over 1,000 centers worldwide and a proven success of leading our clients to a life free from addiction. As an additive part to achieving better outcomes for residents of Northeast Wisconsin, Adult and Teen Challenge would be able to begin with leading 16 adult men in our area through the 12-month program, with the ability to continue beyond the first round of programming and with plans to expand to support more individuals. Our program not only helps them navigate through the process of substance abuse recovery, it does so with proven rates of success for sobriety, a history of helping residents achieve improved interpersonal relationships and reduced recidivism, as well as covering the entire costs to the patient, resulting in $0 financial cost to them. Adult & Teen Challenge is launching its first residential recovery program for men in Howard, Wisconsin. The substance abuse crisis in Green Bay and the surrounding communities throughout Northeast Wisconsin has continued to rise yearly and has seen enormous deaths due to drug and alcohol addiction, as outlined in the documents attached. Over the past seven years thru 2021, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services has recorded over 950 deaths from Opioid overdoses and over 3,400 deaths from alcohol abuse in Northeast Wisconsin alone. Those numbers are troubling, yet there are very limited resources in Green Bay and NE, WI, to provide residential treatment for individuals who are currently struggling. So, there is a tremendously significant need for more residential treatment options. Our facility will support sixteen men through the process of obtaining sobriety. We are beginning our work with male clients because the statistics of Northeast Wisconsin show us that this is the population demographic with the highest need. From 2014-2021, 64.3% of alcohol related deaths were in males along with 65.5% of opioid deaths. Clientele for our program will come from referrals from church or community programs. Men who are in the addiction cycle and are caught up in the judicial system will have the chance to work on their sobriety journey with ATC, upon securing approval of the court. Our two year goal is to increase our capacity to a 24 bed facility to help as many struggling individuals as we can break the addiction cycle. We would be able to accomplish this expansion within the current facility. After completion of this goal we will begin work on creating a facility for women of Northeast Wisconsin. Through ATC we are able to have a substantial impact on our community. When you support an individual through recovery, you aren’t just impacting the individual, you’re changing their life, changing the lives of their family members and making the entire community a better place to live and work. We are helping these men to become active and positive members of our society and the impact is amplified across our community.
