Mission Statement

We Matter Learning is a start-up Nonprofit Organization which was established in 2020 with the intent to make a difference within students, grades preschool-12th. Our mission is to create personalized social emotional lessons to address each individual school's needs by providing awareness and strategies for mental wellness through academic content areas to compassionate educators via research based instruction. We create weekly lessons, communicate with the schools, analyze student needs and growth, and collaborate with local businesses to ensure mental health resources are available and utilized. It is our belief, through longitudinal studies, we will have evidence to support a tangible impact in lowering suicide rates, addictions, homelessness, abusive behaviors, divorce, drop out rates, criminal activity, and hate crimes, etc; as well as a documented increased self-satisfaction and -regulation, relationship health, job satisfaction, graduation rates, physical health, mental health and overall wellness. We believe we can affect real change for ALL students; making a lasting impact on communities.

About This Cause

We Matter Learning is working to directly make a difference by supplementing everyday curriculum with mental health topics within our school’s already established learning standards. Once we are connected with schools, We Matter Learning Curriculum Designers work with faculty and staff to identify the specific needs by conducting informal assessments and surveys from parents (preschool), staff (preschool-12th grades), and students (6th-12th grades) to ensure we are able to provide targeted personalized instruction. Once the survey results are analyzed by our experienced staff, lessons are created to align with the identified need. The creation of the lesson takes into consideration who is delivering the materials, their qualifications and specialty areas, the time available for the lesson, and access to technology and materials. Our goal is to provide lessons which are completely ready to deliver with no added work for the individual who will be teaching the material. Educators have minimal time and their stress levels are high, so we want to ensure we are supporting students without adding concerns to those who are working hard to also make a difference. We Matter Learning follows the CASEL Framework to identify focus areas. CASEL, Collaborative for Academic, Social, Emotional Learning, is a nonprofit organization envisions all children and adults as self-aware, caring, responsible, engaged, and lifelong learners who work together to achieve their goals and create a more inclusive, just world. This mission is accomplished through a commitment to social emotional learning. CASEL has identified 5 core competencies which help cultivate skills and environments that advance students’ learning and development: self management, self awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making (casel.org). We Matter Learning has taken these competencies and aligned specific skills or traits to assist with identifying the area of need: Self-Awareness: Confidence, Identifying emotions, Accurate self-perception, Recognizing strengths, Self-efficacy Social Awareness: Perspective taking, Empathy, Appreciating diversity, Respect for others Self-Management: Self Motivation, Goal setting, Impulse control, Stress management, Self Discipline, Organizational skills Relationship Skills: Communication, Social engagement, Relationship building, Teamwork Responsible Decision Making: Identifying problems, Analyzing situations, Solving problems, Evaluating, Reflecting, Ethical responsibility After lessons are complete, staff provide feedback to We Matter Learning, including the ease of the lesson, student engagement, and suggestions for improvement. Outside of classroom opportunities, We Matter Learning is collaborating with mental health agencies in rural areas to provide mental health resource nights to parents and educators. This event will be virtual and available to the community at large free of cost.
