About This Cause
Meals on Wheels is a trusted leader in the fight to combat hunger and isolation in New Mexico. We are the only meal delivery organization in the state that serves anyone of any age, for any reason, and that can provide eight medically tailored diets. For the past 52 years, we have provided hunger and financial relief, meaningful social interaction, wellness checks, and quality of life supportive services to thousands of neighbors in need. Meals on Wheels New Mexico provides low or no cost nourishing meals and free, accessible quality-of-life programs to our clients. Our current offerings include: --Meal Delivery Program: 300+ annual volunteers provide face-to-face deliveries on weekdays, distributing up to 1,000 meals daily and providing vital wellness checks to clients. Additionally, frozen meals are shipped statewide. --Weekend Pantry Box: In partnership with Roadrunner Food Bank, volunteers deliver shelf stable food to clients to maintain consistent food access on days we do not deliver. --Local Harvest: Local farmers and producers provide fresh seasonal produce and prepared items to improve the nutritional value of meals and equitable access to fruits and vegetables. --Newspaper Program: MOWNM offers free newspapers for our clients five days a week to foster community connection for clients who are homebound and often lack access to technology. --Long Leash on Life Pet Program: Free pet food, treats, dog walking, immunizations, veterinary care, and mobile grooming for our neighbors’ pets, enabling continued companionship. --Pilot Assistive Technology Installation Program: Launched in 2024, MOWNM’s volunteers will be trained to install simple assistive technology (flashing doorbells, assistive handrails, easy to turn doorknobs, expandable door hinges) for senior clients and clients living with disabilities. --Collaboration Programs: Diabetic, renal, and pureed meals shipped to Las Cruces for community members who do not have medically tailored meal options; frozen meals shipped to Luna Community College for students facing food insecurity after recent wildfires; and meals sent to Heading Home and Westside Emergency Housing Center for unhoused neighbors who cannot receive regular deliveries. Meals on Wheels New Mexico is working to create a healthy New Mexico for everyone. By addressing hunger and isolation directly, we are helping to build strong, vibrant communities that are inclusive of neighbors who are too often left behind--the homebound, the elderly, and the chronically ill.
