Mission Statement
The mission of Haven House is to: "Help domestic violence victims obtain immediate safety plus knowledge, skills, and resources to succeed in living lives free of violence". Our primary goal is to provide adult victims/survivors and child witnesses/victims of domestic violence with emergency shelter, information, knowledge, awareness, skills, and resources that will help them to move on to healthy family relationships and healthy, safe lives. Haven House has eight bedrooms and can provide emergency shelter to approximately 25 women and children at one time.
About This Cause
Haven House is the only agency in Rio Rancho and, in fact, all of Sandoval County, whose entire mission is to serve domestic violence victims and to provide emergency shelter to keep adult domestic violence victims and child domestic violence witnesses/victims safe. Our cross-trained staff will provide crisis intervention, information, counseling, adult and child therapy, domestic violence education, life skills education, legal advocacy, case management, transportation, and referrals to other appropriate social services agencies. We provide individual assistance to all victims to help set and reach their individual goals to move onto safe, healthy lives for them and their children. Haven House is helping adults and children needing shelter (32-35/night), families that might need help outside of shelter but they have a safe place to stay and families that left the shelter and still need various support services. -For domestic violence victims and their children, we provide: - Emergency shelter for women and children fleeing abusive homes - 24/7 (including holidays) crisis hotline, crisis intervention, and intake into shelter; - Safety planning - A service assessment and a service plan for each adult and child client appropriate for individual situations, needs, and client wishes - Individual therapeutic counseling - Case management for in-shelter and out-of-shelter clients - Education about the dynamic of domestic violence and its warning signs - Legal advocacy for women and some men (information about the judicial process, help in obtaining orders of protection, help in preparing for court dates; accompaniment to court, and sometimes arrangements for attorney services) - Referrals to partner agencies for specific services Haven House does not provide directly - Domestic violence support groups at the shelter and in the community, held in the meeting rooms of a Rio Rancho church. - Other groups such as life-skills (budgeting, food preparation, resume writing, meal preparation, financial literacy, creative writing, library use, interview preparation, educational opportunities, storytelling etc.) Other services that Haven House provides: - Community outreach and education including trainings in schools about teen dating violence - Batterers Intervention Program – 52 week program that is conducted on behalf of the victims and holds the perpetrators accountable and teaches them practical skills for relating to one's partner in non-controlling and non-violent ways. - Violence in the workplace training - Financial assistance to victims (gift cards, payments for various needs, furniture, other assistance, occasional first month rent or deposit payments)
