About This Cause
Kid's Inc. Child Advocacy Center works to reduce the trauma and re-victimization of child victims by providing forensic interviewing services to child victims of serious neglect, sexual and physical abuse, or witnesses to violent crimes. The agency is the sole provider of forensic interviewing services for the rural counties of Otero and Lincoln in southern New Mexico and also provides services to adults with developmental and cognitive disabilities. Kid’s Inc. CAC also provides family advocacy and crisis counseling services to victims as well as appropriate, non-offending family members. To reduce trauma and anxiety and to provide a source of comfort and security for the victim and accompanying caregivers, the agency has additionally implemented a courthouse facility dog program. “Sunny Daize” joined Kid’s Inc. CAC in December 2018 and has already proven to be a valuable asset when working with our child victims and their non-offending caregivers. Sunny is fully trained as a service-dog and provides accompaniment, companionship and a comforting presence during child forensic interviews, family advocacy sessions, crisis counseling sessions, sexual assault forensic medical exams, during judicial proceedings such as hearings and trials as well as judicial preparation meetings with clients and also community prevention/health fair activities.
