The Grief Center's mission is to provide compassionate and safe support, understanding, healing, and hope to our grieving community.
About This Cause
New Mexico ranks 2nd in the nation for the number of bereaved children under the age of 18 who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. This equals one in seven children. Grief, when not properly supported and assisted, can harmfully impact mental and physical health. The Grief Center provides specialized grief support services that work to mitigate these challenges. The Grief Center is a member of the National Alliance for Grieving Children; all programming is designed using industry-standard best practices and curriculum. As the only organization in Central New Mexico providing support services for grieving youth and their caregivers, The Grief Center is addressing a critical gap in health services offered to New Mexicans and is the community’s foremost resource in the realm of childhood grief. Because finances are often uncertain after death, we provide our services at no cost. Support groups take place in-person, in Albuquerque. Camp Corazon emerged in 2013 as a means to provide critical grief support to rural communities throughout New Mexico that otherwise lack such support. We receive referrals from school counselors, medical and mental health professionals, CYFD, drug courts, funeral homes, hospice organizations, faith communities, and more. Children who attend bereavement support groups come from all backgrounds and circumstances, such as children who survive car accidents that kill a sibling or parent, children whose sibling died of an incurable illness, and children who experience tragedy that resulted in a death such as suicide, murder, home invasions, etc. Please call The Grief Center (M-F, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm) for a tour of The Center for Hope & Healing and to learn more about our services - 505-323-0478
