Mission Statement
The mission of the Whole Person Care Clinic is two-fold. First, we provide high-quality, community-based, client-centered, affordable or free healthcare utilizing the trans-disciplinary model with healthcare professionals, faculty, students, and community members. We are focused on serving the working poor and under/uninsured individuals in a respectful, culturally appropriate, and compassionate manner. Second, we provide an excellent learning environment for graduate and undergraduate students. We focus on providing a safe, real-life learning environment where students can work with healthcare professionals and focus on underserved clients' unique needs.
About This Cause
The Whole Person Care Clinic consists of a group of clinics throughout California. The Whole Person Care Clinic provides free medical care and case management to uninsured, underinsured, and unsheltered individuals. Patients can receive safe, effective, patient-centered care that is affordable or free to the individual. Healthcare providers work with graduate healthcare students to provide care to patients. The Whole Person Care Clinic structure includes a Board of Directors, an Executive Director, a Medical Director, medical providers, staff, graduate healthcare students, volunteers, and community partners. The Whole Person Care Clinic is a unique healthcare facility whose aim is to provide holistic healthcare that includes behavioral health, medical clinics, and additional services that cover the social determinants of health, such as housing. WPCC provides free medical care, manages acute and chronic diseases, and provides case management, social services, health promotion, and patient education services. We also help access health-related resources/programs such as mental health, rehabilitation services, expanded Medi-Cal, and Covered California. The clinics focus on providing free walk-in and appointment care for unsheltered, uninsured, and underinsured residents. The sites also train graduate and undergraduate nursing students, who are supervised by physicians and nurse practitioners. This allows students to experience and become proficient in providing healthcare to vulnerable and underserved populations in our community while providing high-quality healthcare to people who would otherwise not receive any healthcare. We also assist with accessing health-related resources/programs such as laboratory services, prescription medications, transitional housing, rehabilitation services, expanded Medi-Cal and Covered California, food distribution, hygiene items, and showers. In the calendar year 2023, we had 7025 patient encounters and 3038 individual patients.
