Mission Statement
Citizen Robotics teaches people to build houses with robots. Through 3d concrete printing, we seek to reduce the cost of housing construction. We raise awareness of what's possible with automation, showcasing solutions from around the world. Through our training center, we bring these technologies to the community so they can learn to build more effectively – using less labor and less material. We upskill today's construction workforce for the future with training and opportunities to practice on new housing developments.
About This Cause
Citizen Robotics teaches people to build houses with robots. We aim to simultaneously raise wages and lower build costs through 3d concrete printing. Our training center for the built environment trains workers in digital fabrication and 3d printed construction. We expand the workforce by enrolling young people. Workers with digital fluency command 15% higher wages, making home ownership more accessible. Using robots to create houses lowers build costs and builds homes faster, increasing the supply of low cost, desirable homes. We use automation to make our build process more efficient. We also make our homes more energy efficient so we can lower high heating and cooling costs. The programming in our training center is designed to create community access for digital fabrication and robotic construction. We provide training in digital fabrication and robotics for individuals in the community. University and secondary school partners ensure a steady stream of youth inspired to build with robots. Citizen Robotics is an innovation hub for AEC to come together and learn our way forward with digital fabrication and robotics. By bringing this tech out of university labs and into the community at large, we intend to create a pathway for people to learn 3d concrete printing specifically, and digital fabrication more generally, as an apprenticeship program. By placing the training center in Detroit, we hope to activate and serve those that need higher wage jobs the most. And by building attainable housing in Detroit, we hope to show the community that low-cost, high performing homes are within their reach.
