Mission Statement
Little Read Wagon aims to close the literacy gap resulting from poverty by sharing books with underserved populations in Norman and the Oklahoma City area.
About This Cause
Little Read Wagon is a grassroots effort dedicated to supplying new and donated books to children and adults, particularly those living in underserved or book desert communities in the Norman and greater Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area. Little Read Wagon strives to share a love of books and reading by providing a diverse and inclusive selection of books for those who use our services. We promote literacy by putting books directly into the hands of children and adults especially those not inclined to read or those without books of their own. We provide books that reflect area demographics and are culturally relevant. Little Read Wagon participates in numerous free community events where our targeted audience is expected to attend. Children and adults are free to choose their own books but volunteers are always available to help select books that are suitable for age, interest and reading ability. In addition to free community events, Little Read Wagon has several unique stand alone programs. #Look4aBook, encourages readers to find books hidden in public parks throughout the area. # BookDropTuesday, initially developed during the pandemic to help homeschooling families, continues to deliver a carefully curated collection of books to home porches to be replenished and returned every two weeks. #PJsandPages encourages parents to read to their children at bedtime by providing pajamas along with books to our younger clients. Little Read Wagon also stocks free libraries that are housed within other organizations serving a clientele similar to our own once again sharing the important experience of book ownership.
