Mission Statement
To provide a place where grieving children, teens and their families find connections, share their experiences and heal.
About This Cause
The Grief Club of Minnesota is a 501c3 community based nonprofit whose mission is to provide a place where grieving children, teens, young adults, and their families find connections, share their experiences and heal. The organization offers a safe haven of support, compassion, education and hope, providing peer based support groups, individual and family grief counseling sessions, crisis support, and education to the community. All clinical services are provided by professional licensed mental health counselors and at no cost to the participants. Most states have a children’s grief center and many have multiple. With the rising numbers of death in our state by suicide, homicide, opioids and COVID-19 it is imperative, now more than ever, that grieving kids and their families have a place to go to receive whole family care with limited barriers to accessing the support. By providing space for these grieving families to process and address their grief in healthy ways, The Grief Club of Minnesota will not only be benefiting the participants, but our communities, as well. We know that everyone’s grief is unique and therefore their expressions of grief are unique. The programming will allow different modalities of grief expression through art, music, play, yoga/meditation and verbal communication. Co-founders, Cara and Sarah are licensed mental health therapists and have a combined 40+ years of experience working in the field of death, dying and bereavement, with a special focus on kids' grief. They have counseled thousands of grieving children, teens, young adults and families. Cara and Sarah have written and published numerous grief support curriculums, books, memory journals and have spoken locally and nationally on the topic of childhood bereavement. The Board of Directors are a group of skilled, talented and committed individuals who are deeply dedicated to the mission and vision of The Grief Club. No child or family should grieve alone and so, in partnership with organizations like yours we are able to help heal the hurting hearts of so many.
