About This Cause
Founded in 2020 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, I Want To Mow Your Lawn™ is a grassroots nonprofit providing 100% free lawn care services to older adults, military veterans, and others in need. Our mission combines practical help with a commitment to environmental stewardship, promoting the use of battery-powered, eco-friendly equipment wherever possible. What began as a one-man initiative by founder Brian Schwartz, laid off from his digital advertising job, quickly grew into a nationwide movement of kindness. Inspired by the simple yet profound act of helping neighbors in need, Brian launched the organization to uplift others during uncertain times. Today, I Want To Mow Your Lawn™ is more than a nonprofit; it is a catalyst for connecting volunteers with their local communities, fostering a culture of generosity and sustainability. What We've Accomplished With over 1,300 enlisted volunteers across all 50 states and a growing network of partnerships, we've helped transform the lives of countless individuals. To date, we’ve: Mowed, cleaned, and revitalized over 1,800 lawns. Assisted older adults, veterans, and families facing hardship, providing temporary relief without contracts or strings attached. Received global media recognition, amplifying our impact and inspiring new volunteers to join our mission. Built a dynamic, centralized platform for volunteer management, allowing helpers to log hours, upload before-and-after photos, and track their environmental contributions. Our Approach While we’ve invested heavily in automation and technology to streamline operations, we are proud to maintain a human element at the heart of our work. By combining innovative tools with an all-volunteer-based model, we continue to reach volunteers effectively and provide meaningful connections between helpers and those in need. Our Goals for 2025 and Beyond We envision a future where no individual struggles to maintain their yard simply because they lack the physical ability or resources to do so. Our roadmap includes: Expanding services to include sustainable yard practices such as composting and native plant landscaping to support local ecosystems. Automating processes further to connect clients with volunteers faster while keeping personal interactions meaningful. Growing our reach to 5,000 lawns served annually and incorporating community-building activities like workshops, educational content, and volunteer recognition programs. A Note from the Founder When I started this project in Northern New Jersey, it was just a way to stay physically and mentally engaged while helping my neighbors during a challenging time. I never imagined it would grow into a nationwide movement. The joy of seeing a newly mowed lawn and the relief it brings to those who need it most is indescribable. This initiative is about more than yard work — it’s about spreading kindness and building connections. We are not professional landscapers; we are volunteers doing what we can to make a difference. Whether it’s a small yard or a larger property, every cut represents a moment of care, a chance to uplift someone, and a step towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.
