Mission Statement
Kids Voting Ohio's mission is to provide all Ohio students with the education and resources necessary to understand the role of local, state and federal governments and the American voting process.
About This Cause
Kids Voting Ohio is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that serves Ohio schools through voter education and voter preparedness, promoting civic education and engagement, and increased family and community communication about citizenship. Programming is free all to Ohio schools. Kids Voting Ohio is an affiliate of kids Voting USA. Kids Voting Ohio (KVO) is seeking funding to support three major areas of programming and administrative functions for students in grades 3 - 12 in Ohio schools in 2023-2024. Grant funding is needed to support programming (80%), while the remainder of the funds will be used to support KVO's administrative functions. Listed are the three (3) major areas: 1. Mock Elections serve to stimulate the voting process and prepare young people to become active and engaged voters. Grant funding for mock elections will allow KVO to reach more students each election and also provide more resources to continue development-relevant curriculum. 2. Registration Drives serve to register eligible students to vote across the state right at their schools. Voter registration drives are coupled with an educational component to create larger impact. Grant funding would allow KVO to implement more drives across the state and further develop curriculum. 3. The Civic Leaders program provides an opportunity for Ohio school students to learn skills and develop and implement their own civic-based projects within their school or within their community. Students develop leadership skills while working with community leaders on projects while KVO also works with students individually to implement their own projects. Funding for the Civics Leadership program will help to cover the cost of each student's project, and to hire additional staff to work with students during the planning and implementation phases of their projects. Worthy to note is that within these three (3) major areas of programming and administrative function support, teacher support and curriculum guidance to teachers is an integral part of KVO's design while aligning itself with urban, rural and suburban school districts and partners. KVO believes our strategies and programs align with important education goals while teaching about and learning about Civil Society and Education which serves to strengthen civic engagement, promoting special initiatives and encouraging youth engagement. KVO programs add value that support guiding principles; developing and nurturing strong and independent individuals that understand what social, economic and political empowerment is through our programs is key to a thriving and healthy community. Developing leadership skills through especially the Civics Leaders program lends itself to build upon the needs and values of people while supporting the aspirations, accomplishments and potential of others in communities where people live, work and play. This is critically important for the sustainability of a community. Encouraging responsible young citizens is blended into all of our programming with the thought that the definition of a responsible citizen covers many areas, including, but not limited to, upholding legal, social and moral obligations that help create and maintain harmonious communities. Org Description: KVO's programs and projects arw conducted with KVO staff working with teachers, students, political groups, Ohio school districts, community business and civic groups, and other community partners and supporters. KVO also conducts programs and projects by providing Ohio schools with free voter and civics education resources and programming, personally working with teachers and students throughout the project. KVO offers mock elections for every election in Ohio, voter registration drives, social studies curriculum fully aligned with Ohio's social studies standards for grades 3 -12, a library of educational videos from Ohio's elected officials, and other civics-based resources and program opportunities in addition to access to all KVO organizational and program information on our website.
