TRANSGENDER GENDER-VARIANT INTERSEX JUSTICE PROJECT

SAN FRANCISCO, California, 94102 United States

Mission Statement

Miss Major Alexander L. Lee TGIJP Black Trans Cultural Center is a group of transgender, gender-variant, and intersex people—inside and outside of prisons, jails and detention centers—creating a united family in the struggle for survival and freedom. We work in collaboration with others to forge a culture of resistance and resilience to strengthen us for the fight against human rights abuses, imprisonment, police violence, racism, poverty, and societal pressures. We seek to create a world rooted in self- determination, freedom of expression, and gender justice.

About This Cause

Since 2004, Miss Major Alexander L. Lee TGIJP Black Trans Cultural Center has been dedicated to providing invaluable services to the Black transgender, gender variant, and intersex (TGI) community of San Francisco and beyond. We operate several programs including our Legal Program, Housing and Supportive Services Program, Melenie Eleneke Grassroots Re-entry/Socio-economic Development Program, and Wellness Program. Our leaders’ expertise is vast, with a primary focus on Black trans leadership development, community organizing, and legal and social support services for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated trans individuals, with a particular emphasis on the Black TGI community. What sets us apart is our very nature, as we are one of the first and only legal advocacy and support organizations driven by formerly incarcerated Black TGI individuals. Our services are specifically tailored to reach those in the San Francisco area who are not reached by other organizations.
