Mission Statement
The Phoenix Boys Choir, through educating boys in the art of singing and performing the finest music in the boy choir tradition, develops character, discipline, leadership, global awareness, and a strong commitment to excellence, thereby contributing to the greater Phoenix musical life and enhancing Arizona's cultural reputation nationally and internationally.
About This Cause
The Phoenix Boys Choir (PBC) believes that music unites, inspires, and changes children’s lives and in doing so can change Phoenix communities. Its comprehensive and exceptional choral music education program has brought Phoenix boys ages 7-18 together in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment that fosters creativity, personal expression and social growth. PBC firmly believes that participation in its choral music ensembles provide a much needed and meaningful shared experiences and sense of belonging to each young participant. Our life-changing program supports boys in the development of critical life skills, along with confidence, cultural competency and fortitude. No boy is turned away due to inability to pay. During the 15 months of the pandemic, we never closed our doors to the boys we serve. We immediately moved to online rehearsals, music theory classes and community building events. We've provided virtual summer camps, virtual and free concerts for our community and a continuous source of education and community to the boys we serve. As we move through our 2024-2025 Season we remain excited about our season "True North". The Phoenix Boys Choir offers programs featuring training in voice, music theory, and performance for boys. Each year, the Phoenix Boys Choir offers a full season of concert performances offering a wide repertoire from classical to popular selections. We record CDs, participate in music festivals, sing with other professional groups and even host touring choirs. Beginning with the Cadet Choir, boys can progress to Town and Tour choirs, and upon graduation, participate in the Young Men's Ensemble and Masters Men's Choirs. When the boys reach the performance levels of Town and Tour Choir, they have the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally. The Phoenix Boys Choir has a rich 77-year history that has been a source of community pride, inspiration and joy for our region. The Choir has performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera, Phoenix Chorale, Orpheus Chorus, Phoenix Girls Chorus and Phoenix Children's Chorus. We have participated in quite a few iconic local and national events including Alice Cooper’s Christmas Pudding and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. At home in Arizona, we sang the National Anthem for the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes, Arizona Rattlers and the Arizona Cardinals. We have won a GRAMMY Award and our recording of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was featured in the trailer for the 75th Anniversary re-release of "The Wizard of Oz." The Phoenix Boys Choir has had the honor of performing for four United States Presidents. In 2001, we were named "Cultural Ambassadors" to the European Union and in December of 2002 were named an Honorary Phoenix Point of Pride. In the past 22 years alone, our Tour Choir has represented Phoenix and Arizona on international tours to nineteen different countries and large portions of the United States.
