About This Cause
We believe in feeding our students and community children (age of 18 and under) a wholesome meal to help promote their physical, mental and overall well-being. Our Summer Feeding Program feeds any child age 18 and under for FREE, both breakfast and lunch, during the summer school break. This is a vital time for these children as they may go without food or eating due to schools being closed for the summer break. We have several locations open for their convenience throughout our school district that they can attend for these FREE meals. We have expanded our menu choices for the Summer Feeding Program to include many favorites of the children, while still observing the USDA Federal guidelines. We will host a 'Taco Bar' Tuesday that include beef, pork or chicken as the protein along with all the vegetable condiments (shredded lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, etc.) and a choice of soft or hard whole grain shell. Pizza will be available one day a week along with an All American Day of Hamburgers or Hot Dogs. Our fruit choices are limitless in the summer. We offer everything from fresh strawberries to fresh peaches, plums, watermelon and most everything in-between. Along with our nutritional meals, we show Movies daily and have Arts & Crafts for the children to participate in. We make mobiles out of straws, fish aquariums from paper plates, we glitter, paint and color too. Father's day cards are made and a mess is for certain, but we have fun and the children LOVE it! The local fire department even joins our commitment to the children by coming out and hosting a "Water Days". The children wear their swimsuits and have a blast playing in the HUGE waterfall that the Fire Department sprays for them. The children also enjoy learning about the Fire Department equipment as the Firemen happily show off the Fire Truck equipment. The overall goal of our Summer Feeding Program is to encourage as many children as possible to attend our program for meals, but also to have some extra fun during the long, hot summer months. We also have our own 'mini' library for the children where they can actually take the book(s) home and keep them. A program has been put in place with a local library and they come out to have story time during the lunch hour several times throughout the Summer Feeding event. We encourage the children to keep reading during their summer break. We strive for Nutritious Minds, Body and Soul during our Summer Feeding Program.
