Mission Statement
Most of the wildlife that is brought for rehabilitation is usually the result of human contact in some way. Dog/cat attacks, gunshot and BB wounds, fishing line or hook injures, poisoning, hit by car, destruction of habitat, and injuries by malicious people are some of the causes. Domestic waterfowl are most often abandoned at lakes and too tame to survive on their own. Domestic ducks and geese raised by people are not "getting their freedom" when dumped at community parks; many starve to death or are attacked by dogs. We handle and rehome numerous bunnies, ducklings, and chicks after their Easter novelty has worn off.
About This Cause
East Valley Wildlife is a network organization of home wildlife rehabilitators in the SE Phoenix area. Our volunteers take in rescued wild animals that are sick, injured or orphaned, providing them with medical/nursing/supportive care and restoring them to normal physical and behavioral abilities for the purpose of releasing them back to the wild. We also rescue and rehabilitate domestic waterfowl and place these animals up for adoption in approved homes. Making sure that the animals in rehabilitation have the best care possible is one of our priorities. Correct state and federal permits are required to take in federally protected wildlife. Another of our primary purposes is to supply educational information to the public. Our website eastvalleywildlife.org has information about temporary care for baby birds, bunnies, quail, and waterfowl plus information about behavior of each species. We also have an East Valley Wildlife Facebook page. Although we are a small organization, we have served the public since 1988 with a workable policy and program. With no central facility, we have little overhead so the majority of our funding goes directly toward animal rescue and rehabilitation. EVW was incorporated in 1993 and we received our 501((c)(3) non profit status in 1994.
