About This Cause
For the past six years, The Peacemaking Institute (PMI) has been transforming the lives of South King County youth and families involved in the criminal justice system through the Peacemaking Academy program that leads to healing, peace, and reconciliation. PMI has been offering the Peacemaking Academy in a contracted relationship with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office since 2016. In 2021, PMI formally registered as a 501c3 nonprofit so that we could expand our program reach and ability to offer the successful Peacemaking Academy Program to even more impacted families and communities. PMI’s approach in partnership with communities and systems is to create an avenue that utilizes instances of juvenile crime and conflict as an opportunity to bring families and communities together to address harms caused from community violence, make amends that bridge broken relationships, begin the healing process, strengthen family values, and build communities of trust.
